Notes
Smart, funny, and ridiculous like only manga adaptations can be.
You’re waiting... waiting... waiting... and nothing happens. No romantic cinch, no gripping conflict, no nothing except more wackiness and maybe a little sincerity between the leads. It’s baffling. By episode 9, you’re wondering, have I actually watched anything happen?
Most of this goes to Toma as Nakatsu, who completely upstaged everyone with his homophobic inner turmoil. He and Maki have really nice chemistry as well. Oguri Shun does a respectable job as Sano Izumi.
Weren't milked.
No shark to jump.
We get a kiss, though it’s only mildly satisfying.
Warm to the point of looking like a hunting magazine. Plenty of sunlight and grass so green it’s almost blue.
Fun and quirky to fit the drama, but unremarkable.
The hug at the end of episode 6 has you melting, but that’s the highlight of the whole relationship. I know Shun and Maki are better than this, because when they were Rui and Tsurara, they were Gazing up a storm!... at different people, but still, I know they have it in them. They did fine here, I’m just really picky after watching Wu Zun and Ella’s explosive chemistry in these same roles. It’s hard not to compare.
